Boy, I thought I had a great NFL exhibition play on Thursday, the UNDER in the 49ers-Bears game. I go to a Tuesday meeting with about 10 other professional handicappers and sports bettors. These are guys who make their living by betting on sports. One of our groups' best plays this week was the UNDER in the Thursday game. Geez, we sure were wrong. You always hate losses where you weren't even in the game, but you can't let it affect your self-confidence. Nobody hits every play, or even a super high-percentage of plays. Bad losses are part of the sports betting experience. They will happen, no matter how good, or bad, you are in your handicapping.
I am an Olympics junkie. I have been since 1968 as a little kid. I remeber Tommie Smith and John Carlos with their black glove fists in the air. A few days later, George Foreman won the heavyweight boxing gold medal and walked around the ring waving the American flag. All of this was somewhat difficult for a kid to comprehend.
Well, I even have one memory as a very little kid from 1964 in Tokyo when Billy Mills won the 10,000 meter race in an unbelievable upset. It was made into a movie starring Robbie Benson, "Running Brave", but you can see the final lap on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeGVqAyW1YA&feature=related
I grew up in Kansas City and Billy Mills was a runner from the University of Kansas. The connection helped etch this race into my young brain.
I am amazed at how well the Chinese athletes are doing in the Olympics. Apparently, I am very naive in how far China has come in their athletic endeavors.
Well, back to work. I am speaking at a sports betting seminar this weekend in Las Vegas. I should spend some time to make sure my presentation is worthy of listening to.
